Robotaxis are up and running: they carry passengers and are already delivering a service. The challenge now is to bring autonomous mobility to scale in Europe.
This is one of the key lessons from the beti team's field study in the San Francisco Bay Area, presented at a new edition of Movin’On Insights at the Hôtel de l’Industrie.

Waymo, Nuro, Tesla, Zoox: four visions, four strategies—and already a global battle over services, data, operations and user relationships.
Several key lessons emerged:
Robotaxis are moving from technology demonstration to customer experience.
The battle is being fought both in automated driving and behind the scenes: supervision, maintenance, cybersecurity, infrastructure, data and fleet management.
The US model is advancing rapidly, driven by technology, capital, data and platforms. Uber is also confirming a global intermediation strategy.
Europe can still differentiate itself through the service layer: integration with public transport, cybersecurity, data sovereignty, safety supervision and fleet management.
Bringing these services to scale remains a major barrier: funding, contracts, public procurement, long-term partnerships and the role of Mobility Authorities.
The meeting also addressed stakeholder readiness.
The Movin’On Territorial Readiness Index, the TerriGo assistant and the European CCAMbassador initiative show that scaling depends on the collective maturity of territories, operators, local authorities and projects.
Anne-Marie Idrac reminded us in her closing remarks that autonomous mobility is built as a set of reliable, supervised, shared, secure services integrated into existing transport systems.
