Define the specifications for dedicated truck routes linking the southern industrial area, the rail-road terminal and the logistics platforms.
Identify commercial opportunities for a transport terminal connected to rail motorways.
Identify development opportunities arising from the forthcoming opening of the Seine-Nord Europe Canal.
Today, Dunkirk is entering a new chapter in its history, drawing on its creative and industrial strengths, international outlook and the region’s many assets. France’s third-largest port by traffic volume, the Dunkirk industrial and port area continues to expand. The expected tripling of container traffic over the next ten years will lead to a massive increase in the number of heavy goods vehicles in the port area by 2035. In addition, with more than 20,000 direct jobs expected to be created by the arrival of various companies, the port must plan for responsible growth in the interests of all stakeholders.
The Grand Port Maritime de Dunkerque has embarked on a major development programme, marked by the establishment of numerous industrial sites, including Verkor and Prologium battery gigafactories, XTC Orano, SNF Flocryl and Clarebout.
Alongside this land development, the region has already demonstrated its innovative role in clean energy, with the planned construction of the Gravelines EPR and an offshore wind farm, as well as two green hydrogen production facilities. The private sector is also taking action, making substantial investments to reduce carbon emissions from steelworks through the use of hydrogen.
