Resource Guide for Deploying an Automated Shuttle
Automated mobility is no longer a futuristic concept, it is becoming a reality.
In France, many local authorities are already testing automated, electric, and connected shuttles to offer new mobility solutions, particularly in areas where public transport is limited.
The National Strategy for the Development of Automated and Connected Road Mobility (Directorate General for Infrastructure, Transport and Mobility – DGITM, 2025–2027) reflects this momentum by supporting the transition from pilot experiments to the first gradual and sustainable deployments.
Yet for many elected officials and local government staff, the topic remains complex:
“WHERE DO WE START?”, “WHAT STEPS SHOULD WE FOLLOW?”, “HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?”, “WHO CAN SUPPORT US?”
This guide was designed to answer these questions in a simple, gradual, and practical way.
It is aimed at anyone wishing to understand the issues, assess their territory’s maturity, and build a realistic and useful pilot service project.
Its objective is to support territories in their transition toward automated mobility, drawing on insights from five years of work by the Movin’On Community of Interest on Automated Vehicles (CIVA) and on feedback from already engaged local authorities.
