Vers la structuration des chaînes de valeur de la maintenance et du recyclage en Afrique

Toward structuring maintenance and recycling value chains in Africa
Movin’On Africa brought together three field experts to explore how to structure maintenance and recycling value chains across Africa, a critical yet often underestimated lever for more sustainable mobility.
- Michael Wanyama – Founder & Director, Autosafety - Uganda
- Hannes Scheepers – Manager of Corporate Sales, Innovation Group South Africa (Allianz Partners)
- Jacques Ouattara – President, Union of Garage Owners of Côte d'Ivoire
The discussion highlighted diverse realities, from ageing vehicle fleets and informal practices in Uganda, to a more structured and regulated ecosystem in South Africa, and ongoing efforts to modernize and digitalize garages in Côte d’Ivoire.
Despite these differences, common challenges emerged, including weak regulation, lack of technical standards, counterfeit spare parts and poorly structured value chains.
Key takeaways include the need to structure maintenance ecosystems, invest in skills development, leverage digitalization for better traceability and accountability, and adapt regulatory frameworks to local contexts. Strengthening collaboration across countries also appears essential to scale effective solutions.
At Movin’On, we believe that the transition toward sustainable, inclusive and competitive mobility also happens behind the scenes, through maintenance, skills development and structured value chains.
