Vehicle end of life - Building transcontinental action and standards for sustainable mobility

Africa has the lowest motorization rate in the world (an average of around 43 to 73 vehicles per 1,000 people), yet the transport sector already accounts for 30% of the continent’s GHG emissions, largely due to an aging and imported second-hand fleet.

With the African vehicle fleet expected to grow 4 to 5 times by 2050, the stakes are high: road safety, environmental impact, and access to clean, affordable mobility.

How can vehicle end-of-life policies and transcontinental standards help Africa leapfrog towards a safer and more sustainable mobility future? How can Europe, Asia, and Africa align to ensure that vehicles entering African markets meet common safety, production, and emissions standards – while integrating recycling, maintenance, and fuel quality requirements?

Movin'On brings together an expert panel to explore solutions and perspectives:

  • Mangie Magadagela – Sustainability Leader & Norms and Regulations Manager (SSA), Michelin
  • Hamed Cisse – Country Manager Côte d’Ivoire, AUTO24
