Environmentally conscious and economically viable mobility is the future,” India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers in September. “The need of the hour today is to develop a mobility ecosystem that is sustainable and in harmony with the environment. Environmentally conscious and economically viable mobility is the future,” India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers in September. India’s automakers took his advice to heart and showed up at the inaugural Bharat Mobility Global Expo February 1-3 in New Delhi.<\/p>

The Expo featured the participation of 28 vehicle manufacturers, in addition to the presence of more than 600 auto component manufacturers, organizers said.<\/p>

Held at the Bharat Mandapam, a gigantic new showplace situated within New Delhi’s Pragati Maidan exhibition center in central Delhi, the event drew 740 media people from around the world. It featured 1,000 exhibitors including: Maruthi Suzuki India, Tata Motors, Kia India, Mahindra and Mahindra, as well as Hyundai Motor India.<\/p>

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal was delighted with the turnout for this first Bharat Mobility Global Expo, calling the event, “a phenomenal success.”<\/p>

“Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024, with a subtheme very appropriate in the context of India, the new India of today, ‘Beyond Boundaries,’ co-creating future automotive value chains, has been a phenomenal success,” Goyal told media here in the nation’s capital.<\/p>

Goyal said the event united the industry as it presented, \u201cThe entire mobility ecosystem on one platform, in one exhibition with the whole-of-the-nation approach.”<\/p>

To accelerate the adoption of clean and green mobility, Tata Motors, India\u2019s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, showed some of India\u2019s greenest and smartest EVs. Tata’s exhibit featured hydrogen-powered internal combustion engines, hydrogen fuel cell powered EVs, battery electric powertrains, twin cylinder compressed natural gas engines, and efficient fuel delivery systems.<\/p>

Tata featured its newly unveiled 2024 Punch.ev at the Expo. Priced between $14,800 and $19,300, the Tata Punch.ev offers two battery options. The base battery has 25 kWh capacity, providing a range of about 196 miles. There’s also a 35 kWh battery option, which offers 262 miles of range.<\/p>

In India’s competitive EV market, the Tata Punch.ev faces rivals such as the MG Comet, priced between $10,600 and $13,300, the Citroen eC3, priced between $15,000 and $16,400, and Tata’s own Tiago EV, priced between $11,800 and $16,200, according to GSMArena.com, which compares high-tech products.<\/p>

In addition to the Punch.ev, Tata showed tech-loaded vehicles with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) for better safety, mobility solutions for public transport, the Arcade.ev- app suite for gaming, entertainment and media, plus gesture-operated control and voice assistance.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

“This showcasing of multiple green fuel alternatives – natural gas, electric, and hydrogen – will set new standards for the industry in the nation\u2019s quest towards sustainable mobility,” Wagh said of India’s journey.<\/p>

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M Ltd.), one of India\u2019s major automotive companies, presented its portfolio at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 as a testimony to the “Make in India for the World” ethos. “Make in India for the World” is an Indian government initiative to encourage companies to develop, manufacture and assemble products in India and incentivize dedicated investments in manufacturing.<\/p>

At the Expo, Mahindra presented the Born Electric BE.RALL-E in its first public appearance. This electric SUV shows Mahindra’s commitment to innovation, the company says.<\/p>

Rajesh Jejurikar, executive director and CEO, Auto and Farm Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra, said, “Mahindra takes pride in being a truly Indian brand, embodying the ‘Make in India’ spirit since inception. … Our line-up from advanced SUVs to pioneering electric three-wheelers, is a showcase of our commitment to the present and the future. As we showcase our offerings that are crafted in India for the global stage, we reinforce our belief that the future of mobility is being shaped right here in India, with innovation at its core.”<\/p>

The Bharat Mobility Global Expo is not the only automotive exhibition in India, as it happens. Let’s not forget about The Auto Expo, a biennial automotive show held in Greater Noida, National Capital Region, India.<\/p>

Until 2012, the Auto Expo was organized at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, where the Bharat Mobility Global Expo just took place. But in 2014, The Auto Expo moved to the new venue in NCR Region at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The Auto Expo featuring Components has continued at the Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, but the Bharat Mobility Expo is different in that it explored innovation.<\/p>

India’s mobility and automotive talent was on full display in exhibitions, conferences, buyer-seller meetings, state sessions, a road safety pavilion and attractions like go-karting.<\/p>

Hyundai Motor India Ltd., the Indian branch of this South Korean automaker, presented the company\u2019s vision for India and highlighted its commitment to India, particularly the Modi government’s ‘Made in India for the World’ policy.<\/p>

Puneet Anand, AVP and Vertical Head, Corporate Affairs, for the company, said, “As Hyundai Motor India, we take pride in our journey of localization, epitomizing the \u2018Made in India, for the World\u2019 spirit.\u201d<\/p>

“Our commitment goes beyond cars; it\u2019s a commitment to India\u2019s engineering prowess and growth,” Anand said. “Hyundai\u2019s journey in India is more than just automobiles; it\u2019s a narrative of progress, community development, and a relentless pursuit of innovation, reflecting our enduring commitment to India\u2019s future.”<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In India, general elections are expected to be held between April and May 2024, and Prime Minister Modi is seeking a third term as the country’s leader, acknowledging that India’s automotive industry will have a crucial role in the country’s future.<\/p>

In a campaign-style speech at the ‘Bharat Mobility Global Expo-2024 conference on Friday, February 2, Modi told industry leaders he has confidence that the country will emerge as the third-largest economy in the world during a third straight term of government by his party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).<\/p>

“Today’s India is moving forward with the goal of making the country ‘developed’ by 2047. The mobility sector will play a huge role in the achievement of this goal,” Modi said.<\/p>

He called the present era, “the beginning of the golden period for the mobility sector.”<\/p>

According to the latest statistics, he said, car sales in January broke all previous records. “The mobility sector is witnessing an unprecedented atmosphere in the country and you must capitalize on it,” Modi urged the industry executives at the Expo.<\/p>

The Prime Minister said that \u201cthe speed and scale of our government has changed the very definition of mobility in India.”<\/p>

Modi encouraged the industry executives to explore research avenues that utilize India\u2019s abundant raw materials for battery manufacturing and delve into areas such as green hydrogen and ethanol.<\/p>

“Why not conduct research to manufacture batteries using raw materials available in India?” Modi asked. “The auto sector should also explore research in green hydrogen and ethanol.”<\/p>

Modi took time to draw attention to the human needs of drivers in the mobility industry, focusing on the hardships faced by truck drivers. “The government understands the concern of truck drivers and their families,” the Prime Minister said.<\/p>

Modi offered details of a new government plan to develop modern buildings with facilities for food, clean drinking water, toilets, parking and rest for drivers on all national highways. He said the comfort buildings will ease the challenges of the road for truck and taxi drivers, improving their health and helping to prevent accidents.<\/p>

The Prime Minister congratulated India’s automotive industry for producing the first-ever Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 and praised the efforts of the exhibitors. Modi said the organization of \u201can event of such grandeur and scale\u201d in the country fills him with “delight and confidence” because “it brings the entire mobility and supply chain community together on a single platform.”<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
