In another world, cars might have kept their place as a commonplace item with a simple utilitarian purpose. But today for many motorists they are still a symbol of social status and freedom. And even if conventions are now shifting the owner ego factor is (still) there.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Challenges and opportunities<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A contested emblem of individual freedom, in recent decades the private car has transformed our societies, bringing unprecedented freedom of movement and broadening the horizons of the job market, outings, vacations and social life. Owning a car has become a marker of autonomy and social status. But there is a downside: cars are costly to own, and detrimental to society as a whole in terms of pollution, noise, accidents and so forth. Given current levels of pollutant emissions into the atmosphere, the level of ownership by households in wealthy countries applied to the planet as a whole is ecologically unsustainable.<\/p>

How can we separate cars from freedom and success?\u2028What are the safe, reliable alternatives outside the city?\u2028These are just some of the questions we need to answer if we are to make real headway in our collective representation, in tune with the ambitious objectives of the European Green Deal.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Movin'On Community of Interest aims to explore the changing perception of cars seen through a sociological lens. Because reducing the role of private cars in our society will necessarily require a change in narrative, we want to collectively examine the best way to change our perception.<\/p>

But at the same time we will also acknowledge the benefits of the car is some specific cases, especially when you do not have the alternative.<\/p>

We will look closely at the cost and impact of alternative cars in rural areas.<\/p>

Then we will review and promote modal shift solutions that are more effective than just slogans.<\/p>

Time to restore the car to its rightful place in the collective mindset, and to encourage people to use collective or more sustainable forms of mobility.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In 2024, Movin'On is renewing its commitment to the ambitious vision set out by the European Green Deal. To achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, legislative measures include initiatives covering climate, the environment, energy, transportation, industry and sustainable finance - all of which are closely linked. The European Commission has furthermore stressed \"the need for a comprehensive, cross-sectoral approach, encompassing all relevant sectors to achieve the ultimate climate objective\". Movin'On, as a business-led, multi-modal and cross-sectoral ecosystem, is perfectly in line with this approach.<\/p>

We are therefore proud to announce our collective commitment throughout the year to achieving one goal: to help make the decarbonization of land transportation in Europe a success, in line with the objectives of the \"Fit for 55\" package by the year 2030 and in tune with the signing of the call for \"Fossil-Free Transportation\" initiated by our long-standing institutional partner SLOCAT.<\/p>

These 7 themes are the starting point for our 2024 Communities of Interest, working groups that bring together various ecosystem stakeholders.
